Digital Print | Stills in Motion

People have been talking about this for years — the “fusion” of motion and still photography. It’s been a sluggish transition though because early hybrids had a jerky start/stop momentum, leaving the viewer with an unsettling feeling in the pit of the stomach. I believe this is due to how our minds process visual information differently. We process traditional video in terms of story, sequence of events, and leave the moment easily behind because we focused on what will happen next. We want a conclusion to the story. With traditional still images, it’s different; we process them mostly in terms feeling and mood. Although an element of story is always present in a good photograph, we’re not anticipating it in the same way because a single still isn’t bound by a timeline. There’s a depth that only a photograph can capture because as we linger on the moment, we’re invited to reflect on that same moment and engage the imagination in endless possibilities.  Until now, these subtle nuances have not been widely understood or taken advantage of… Watch the excitement unfold below.
